But how much does it cost?

But how much does it cost?

Bad news

Mel sincerely apologizes that we can’t just cough up a number. She too gets annoyed when she can’t find that info on a biz website. But every plant project is genuinely unique, with its own challenges, thrills, timelines, and parameters. We’ve been told our pricing is “a steal”! (And we humbly agree.)

Good news

All of our work starts with a free initial consult — in person if you’re local, via phone or video if you’re not. After the initial consult, we will prepare a detailed quote for your project. Email mel@placebymel.com or fill out the contact form and we’ll find time to chat.

Our business ethos

There is no wasted time. We learn something from every person we speak with. There is no pressure, ever, to use any of our services after you receive the quote. We want you to feel at ease — and you know what’s best for your life and your budget. As Mel’s mechanic says, “It’s only business.” If you want to work together in the future, we’ll always be here.

We aim to be accessible, communicative, and absolutely transparent in our pricing. We will always do our best to try to meet you where you’re at. If you have zero dollars, we can find a gardening book we love that’s on the shelf at your local library and tell you about a cool seed swap.

While we price our work competitively, we may not be able to beat every quote you receive.

We work hard to create lush and sustainable gardens that you can delight in for years to come. We use excellent product and source from local nurseries and small businesses. Plants grown with care and horticultural expertise develop root systems that allow them to flourish far beyond the nursery. Cheap product may look similar upon installation, but tells on itself over time.

PLACE also pays every team member and specialist we work with a living wage. This should be standard in our industry, but it is not.

Mel believes most plant work is deeply underpaid and undervalued. She knows that all labor is skilled labor. She refuses to build a business that relies on exploitative practice and human devaluation in order to grow.

When you work with PLACE, you are working with people who see plant work as a sacred vocation. We move in ways that honor the dignity of the practice and the people devoted to it.
